According to The Scottish Sun, Malaga have rejected a £1m bid from Getafe for Scottish starlet Jack Harper, and Rangers boss Steven Gerrard should capitalise on this to bring him to Ibrox.
What’s the situation?
The Gers are currently sitting at the top of the Scottish Premiership table having beaten Hamilton 1-0 on Sunday, but Steven Gerrard will be keen to bring in reinforcements in the January window after criticising many of his fringe players in recent weeks.
An attacking player such as Harper should be the priority for the former Liverpool legend, as his side have often struggled to break teams down, especially when the in-form Alfredo Morelos is out of the starting XI.
The Scottish Sun recently reported though that La Liga side Getafe offered £1m for the 22-year-old despite his contract with Malaga expiring at the end of the season, so it is clear that they are keen on signing the youngster.
Muscling in
Gerrard though could use the pull of playing for Rangers to muscle in and secure a deal for the former Real Madrid trainee.
Harper, who was born in Malaga, has never played in Scottish domestic football but he has caps for the Scottish U17 and U19 teams, and was called up to the U21 side in March last year as he qualifies through his parents.
So far this season, Harper has netted three goals in 13 appearances in the Spanish second division, and his form is clearly attracting interest. With his contract up at the end of the season, this could be a bargain buy for Gerrard in January.
