Arsenal are open to selling Mohamed Elneny in order to raise funds for a new wide player and centre-back, according to The Times.
What’s the word?
Unai Emery has managed to bring in a handful of new faces this summer.
Sokratis and Stephan Lichtsteiner have been brought in to strengthen the defence, while Lucas Torreira has joined the midfield and Matteo Guendouzi is one for the future.
Bernd Leno arrived earlier in the summer to snatch Petr Cech’s number one goalkeeper spot, but it seems that the manager is not done spending.
The Times reports that a wide forward and a centre-back remains on the transfer wishlist, but in order to raise funds, the club need to sell.
The publication claims that David Ospina and Danny Welbeck are available for transfer, as well as Mohamed Elneny.
Why Elneny?
It would be very odd if Emery sanctioned the sale of the midfielder given that the player signed a contract renewal just five months ago.
It is worth noting that Arsene Wenger was in charge during that time, so perhaps the new boss is not as much of an admirer.

Elneny is not always the most consistent, but he possesses the energy that Emery requires for his pressing style.
The 26-year-old, who is valued at £9m by Transfermarkt, could end up being an important figure in the manager’s setup if he can stay in good form.
Therefore, it would not make much sense for Arsenal to sell at this stage.
