The 2024-25 Copa del Rey final is set as fans are treated to the second El Clásico in a cup final this season.
Real Madrid secured their spot in the final in a dramatic semifinals second leg vs. Real Sociedad. Los Blancos had a one-goal lead going into the decisive game at the Santiago Bernabéu, but Real Sociedad took the game to the hosts and were up 3-1 with less than ten minutes to go. Real Madrid pulled off a vintage comeback and, in extra time, sealed their place in the final through Antonio Rudiger.
Barcelona defeated Atlético Madrid in the other semifinals, further burying Diego Simeone’s side’s season. After a thrilling 4-4 first leg in Barcelona, the Catalans dispatched Atléti at the Metropolitano with Ferran Torres scoring the lone goal of the game to send Barça to the final.
The semifinals results sets-up a mouthwatering El Clásico in the final. Both Real Madrid and Barcelona are in pursuit of a treble winning season, with the two biggest clubs in Spain fighting for the La Liga title and still alive in the Champions League quarterfinals.
It’ll be the second time this season we get a Clásico in a final. Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 5–2 in the Spanish Super Cup final back in January, catapulting Barça’s strong form since then. The Catalans also dispatched Los Blancos 4–0 at the Bernabéu, so Carlo Ancelotti’s men will be seeking revenge at the Estadio de la Cartuja.
It’s the first El Clásico Copa del Rey final since Los Blancos defeated Barça thanks to Gareth Bale’s iconic winner in 2014. With both teams playing like two of the best teams in the world going into the final two months of the season, the stage is set for a brilliant Copa Del Rey final.
